There I was—young, nervous, and excited—giving my very first professional presentation during my inaugural internship with the US Army Corps of Engineers in Wiesbaden, Germany. I remember how seriously I took that day: I dressed up in my best business attire, wanting to look every bit the part. The “state of the art platform” I used to present would probably make me laugh now, but at the time, it felt like the height of sophistication. My audience was a modest group of fifteen people, but to me, it might as well have been a packed auditorium. I was determined to leave a strong impression and do my very best.

As I continued flipping through photos, the contrast between that early experience and where I am today became strikingly clear. Fast forward nearly thirty years: instead of a handful of colleagues, I found myself commanding the stage at Delaware State University’s prestigious Scholarship Ball, speaking to an audience of over a thousand attendees. My outfit had evolved, my presentation tools had advanced, but my passion for connecting with people and sharing meaningful stories remained unchanged.
